We have a Swiss friend who will travel through the US this fall and next
spring. She looks for something interesting to do from September 1996 to
March 1997. She is an experienced potter, and pleasant to work with. She
could not only learn from you, but also share her own knowledge. I post
her request because she does not have Internet access. I will print your
reaction, and fax it to her in Switzerland. Below is the text Anne gave.
Regards, Chris Oort in Holland
I am a freelance ceramist, living and working in Switzerland. I am 35 years
old. This year I decided to spend a few months travelling through the USA to
confront my ideas and work with other cultures and to accumulate new
experiences and impressions.
I have got no definitive projects yet. I will stay in NYC from August 8
till August 15, 1996. Then I have planned to drive along the east coast
down to Louisiana, then (towards September 15) westward to Mexico, New
Mexico and Arizona.
From then on I will dispose of six full months during which I could travel,
work with ceramists, attend workshops and so on. I am ready to drive to
every place where something is going on, even to the North, as I have got a
preference for windy, snowy, crazy winters...
Now just a few more words to tell you that I have got several years of
practice in sandstone gas firing. I also have been doing a lot of Raku and
Naked Raku (slip resist) in the last four years. I am mostly interested in
firing techniques, but remain of course very open to every field in
ceramics.
