TELLING TALES WITH TECHNOLOGY
A two day conference organised to discuss recent work in craft history and
theory using new technologies.
Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July 1996
Aberystwyth Arts Centre, University of Wales, Aberystwyth, Wales, UK.
Presented by the International Potters Festival, Aberystwyth Arts Centre and
the National Electronic Video Archive for the Crafts.
"Over the last few years much work has been undertaken to record events and
interview craftspeople on sound tape and video. Oral historians have long
recognised that recorded interviews and personal reminiscence can enlighten
moments from the past and compliment other kinds of documentation and
evidence. There is little enough history of craft, whether written or recorded.
The conference will be an opportunity to present work in this field and
examine and debate its value. How can it, or should it be used? How can the
new technology of computers and network communications be mobilised to give
access to a wider audience?"
