A friend of mine has an enviable situation which involves someone
else buying a wheel for her to replace one that disappeared. Given
her house constraints, I suggested that she consider getting the
Soldner CL50 (clamp-on wheel) that some people mentioned on ClayArt
earlier this year. I'd like to hear directly from anyone who has
experience with this wheel. How manageable is it? Is it feasible
to attach and remove it routinely? My friend is particularly
interested in knowing how it compares to a 20-year old Shimpo, which
is what it would replace.

Many thanks to any who can assist us in making a decision.

Based on experience of friends, clamp on Soldner wheels "rock & roll" -
with modest amounts of clay. Other friends also have had similar
experience w/ the smaller table model the feet of which form a tripod
& thus can tip when throwing large amounts of clay. Disappointing
on both models. I personally am totally happy w/ the model which
has large table & heavy frame which is totally steady. Two people
can lift it.

I ordered a Soldner clamp on wheel for the studio here at GSU the students
really like it . I like the fact that I can put it at diffeent table heights
for students that are really tall. I can sent it to schools for
demonstrations and it is great to throw on. I don't have a shimpo in the
shop but would love to have more soldners. At 08:06 PM 9/27/96 EDT, you wrote:
