Hey Joyce-

I had the same problem and it hasn't really gotten much
easier...Basically, you pull out the screw on the side, then you pull
like crazy - I usually try to have somebody hold the whole unit down,
then I pull up as hard as I can and twist back and forth - It'll slide
off just when you think it never will. The splash pan is, in my
opinion, a ridiculously silly design for an otherwise great wheel. Hope
this helps...
