Don -
Some years ago I had a student making spheres by throwing two large
hemispherical bowls and joining them together when soft-leather-hard. Throw
one hemisphere on a bat, remove it from the wheel on the bat, and DON'T run
your cutoff wire under the hemisphere. Throw the second one on another bat.
When both are soft-leather-hard, score and slurry the contact point, lift
the first one by the bat, and work it onto the second one. Use cutoff wire
to remove sphere from both bats. Finish with a rib and with trimming. Make
a few needle-tool holes in the form as soon as you join it. If it starts to
shrink with no way for air to escape it will split. Let us know if you are
successful.
