throwing thin/vanity

I strive to throw thinly, though I think there is a place for stoutly made pots.
The way to make a good, thin pot is to do everything right. In my opinion the
clay should be a bit softer, rather than harder. Very well kneaded, good aged
clay, centered just right, opened just right. and the sides raised in an
orderly, fluent way. One can use tricks like thinning with ribs, letting it dry
out a bit, and so forth, to push the limits a bit; but the main achievement of a
thin pot happens by the process of throwing well.

By the way...I know a few artist, but can't think of one I'd describe as vain.
