Joan...try this. Instead of waxing, scrape the majority of glaze from the
foot by drawing your mug across a piece of window screen, then across a damp
piece of towelling. This works fine if you are not doing a gazillion. If
you are into it big-time, I would invest in a commercial foot-cleaning
machine. They are quite simple and I'm sure not terribly expensive. The
time saved would certainly pay for the investment in short order.

When I was doing production, I use to use a pillow size piece
of foam pad like a flat sponge. I'd keep it damp and do a fast
twist of the pot to clean the foot. Just wash the foam after
it gets full of glaze. No wax and no fettling.

.....OR.....
Try buying a few different sizes of disposable foam brushes for $.50-$.90
at your local hardware store...simply wipe the bottoms of any fet after
dipping in glaze.
