I am just starting to make my own glazes. Any suggestions on the best kind of
scale to purchase to measure the ingredients? Can I trust used? And can you
give me a general ballpark on what I can expect to pay. I am not a
professional, just a hobby but I have already learned my lesson that it is
easier to purchase the right equipment the first time!

Thanks,

Kelly,
You will be well served by a O'haus triple beam gram scale. It
should run you $100 to $135. You may also want to purchase some
additional weights so that you can weigh a larger amount. A tare beam is
also handy for adjusting the balance to compensate for the weight of
your container.
good luck -- Paul

Hi There. I just bought an Ohaus 3 beam scale through Edmund Scientific
(the catalog people) for glaze testing. I think it goes to a kilogram for
$102 (including shipping) It took a while...I got caught in the UPS strike.
I'm sure Edmund Scientific has an 800 number or a web site. Emily in
Astoria where it didn't rain for 38 days. I have over 400 messages to read.
I must make hay while the sun shines.
