A caveat here..... I have been testing strontium too as a substitute for
barium. But, in the US, I've discovered something. There are a couple of
different grades. One is like powder, similar to flour in consistency. The
other is more grandular. The first is made by a chemical company in the
state of Georgia. I have contacted Clayart in Tacoma WA, Seattle Pottery
Supply in Seattle and a Company in Lawrence Kansas used by Pete Pinnell who
uses stontium in his base. They use the Georgia company's powder like
grade. The problem with the grandular grade is that is likely to remain in
your 200 mesh sifter and not end up in your glaze. So, as you shop for a
distributor in the US, please ask a potential supplier where he/she gets
his/her product. You want the Georgia Chemical Co and for the life of me I
can't remember it's name.. Emily, in Astoria OR where it's raining....I
know the weather person said it wasn't but he hasn't walked outside. Good
luck epfizh@pacifier.com
