Dear Clayarters,
I'm looking for a source where I can obtain unglazed bisque ceramic tile in
sizes 4" X 4" and larger.
I called the local Dal-Tile distributor but they can supply me only with 1"
X 1" and 2" X 2" unglazed mosaic tile.
TIA for any help,
Greg

Greg,
Dal-Tile makes and distributes sizes other than 2x2. They sell 4 1/4x
4 1/4, 6x6, even I think 8x8 and 12x12. Your local dealer is just
being lazy. Also I think Axner sells these.
What temperature are you firing to? If you are only doing low-fire
you can get unglazed bisque tile from Huntington-Pacific, US Ceramics,
B & W, Mannington, Monarch, Westminster, and H&R Johnson. Here in
Seattle I can get all of these except H&R J from a local distributor.
Laguna sells Westminster, H&R J are available from Ceramic Supply of
NY & NJ, or see the ad in CM for them from some place in Michigan.
All of these tiles will go to low-fire temps, but if you're going
higher, some of them will give you problems.
Too bad American Olean quit selling theirs when Dal bought them. They
were wonderful- even went to ^10. But, yet again, the customers take
it in the shorts as a result of another corporate takeover.
Hope this helps.

Greg:
The Dal-Tile store here in Gaithersburg, MD has 4.25" sq. and 6" sq.
bisqued tiles. Ask your outlet if they can order them from Dal-Tile,
because they do make them. Good luck.
