Why would ANYONE pay $4000 for a used dough mixer when they can get a new
Soldner mixer for around $3500. Why would anyone pay even $1000 for a used
dough mixer when they can keep saving their money and buy a Soldner and have
a really good mixer. Are you sure you didn't mean to say $400???

Actually having used a Champion Dough mixer and a Soldner, I am
rebuilding a champion for my own personal use. At school we will continue
with the Soldner.
As a professional clay mixer before helping in the building of the clay
mixer and pugging operation at the Bray, I would routinely mix and bag
over 6000 pounds of clay in a day with the Champion. On rare occasions I
would mix a bit more than 8000 pounds. It was
faster, easier to unload and did a better job than the Soldner I now use.
When it did need repair we ended up sending drawings to the machine shop,
but this machine handled a lot of clay each year, and repairs were
infrequent. The clay came out very consistent with wedging only needed to
remove the air.
BTW I prefer the Soldner over the Bluebird dough type mixer.
