There is a type of flower vase sought by certain clinets for making
Japanese floral arrangements--there is a term for this style of vase (a
Japanese word used to catagorize these vases) but I can't think of it.
Please if you have knowledge of this let me know--Marshall

The term for Japanese floral arranging is IKEBANA. I don't know if the
vessels used for ikebana have a different name though.

Perhaps "Kaki", or "Hana-ire", is the word you are looking for? "Ichirin-z
ashi" is used for very narrow-necked vase in which only one or two stems of
flowers are arranged.

In addition to the responses you have received, if you havn't
hit on the exact word your looking for how about _suiban_ (flower bowls)
_konpoto_ (tall footed vase) _kabin/hanaike_ (vases) _bonsai bachi_ (bonsai
tray or _vekibachi_ (plant pot)..

When you do get it let us all know.. I's 'sorta like 20 questions!

15 Sept.96 Dear Susan,There are almost as many schools of Ikebana as
there are pots in which to place flowers/plants/branches. I know of at
least one school devoted to extreme 'modernism'. We have found that it is
best to study the requirements of the Ikebana master and the
school, before making too many pots, offhand. don Sanami/MorrillOn Sun, 15 Sep
