vinegar in clay.. chemical or physical effects?

I think you are right about the wetting of the clay. I really
doubt that bacteria have much if anything to do with any of this. And I
suspect that vinegar would not help either (probably not chemically but
perhaps physically in maybe reducing the polar attraction of the water
molecules and therefore the surface tension of the water molecules) but I
am not a chemist. There must be some factual info on this topic
somewhere...
