Clayarters,
I am very new with CLAYART- this is my first message since I
subscribed last night! I am a student of ceramics in California and I
consider myself fortunate to be studying with Paul Meyers.
I am visiting the Finger Lakes area of New York in 2 months. I plan
on visiting Alfred University and I would love to visit Richard Aerni's
studio. I would greatly appreciate any information regarding these
places but also any other places or people of interst within the general
area. Thanks! I am becoming aware that NY is a wealth of potter
resources and great ceramic individuals.

Take the time to go to Syracuse. The Eversom Museum has a first rate
collection of ceramics, including contemporary.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a wide variety of work in clay thru many
civilizations.I always pick up a city map, gallery guide oncurrent shows then
ask questions everywhere. Soho often has shows and Grenich village area have
art supply stores galore. We like to catch the Museum of Natural History for
evenings when we can't access other shows.Always remember closed Mondays and
use the gallery guide for open times. The Hispanic Museum is in the Bronx on
the subway line.Check the phone book there for specific addresses. Most good
libraries have telephone books of larger cities and on line has means for
this research.
Hope this helps.

just got a post card in the mail from Kubuli House- Ceramic Arts about
some classes Reuben King is teaching, I believe the studios in Manhattan
and Brooklyn Navy Yard might be open to visitors- looking at the work on
the card design, if I were a ceramic artist visiting New York I'd make
sure I stopped in. I believe the Brooklyn Navy Yard has been retrofitted
as a design/art center. Also some wharehouses inLong Island City
including a public school are art centers. The Visitors Bureau on 42nd
Street or any hotel concierge should be able to help.

Enjoy your visit.
