wall board as a work surface

There is a glass fiber reinforced, portland cement based board that is sold
for use in place of gypsum wall board in wet areas like shower surrounds and
bathtub back walls and the like. This board is sometimes called Blue Board
and is sold in 3x5 foot sheets. I believe the size of sheet is related to
the weight of the material - really heavy. While this material is genuinely
water proof and has no paper covering to come off, it is also relatevely
difficult to cut and could not support much weight over a span, as in an
unsupported table top application.
You could really mystify the guys at HomeDepot by asking to have a sheet
sawed into squares. I expect they are unequiped to do that and won't want to
anyway.

For those of us who work with different clays and don't want to
contaminate the porcelain with the salt clay, cutting those cement boards
( with a carborundun blade) into a size to fit on top of your wedging
table and shifting them d,depending on the clay you are using, saves
scrubbing or contamination....Elca Branman
