website update

updated sun 28 feb 10

Gil Stengel on tue 9 sep 97

A while back I posted some shots of our two chamber wood/salt kiln here
ate Western Illinois University on my website. These are a series of
shots of the kiln under construction. They can be accessed at:

http://homepage.macomb.com/gstengel/kilnyard/illinois.html

After I posted that update someone asked for shots of work from the kiln.
There are four slides of pots from the last firing at:

http://homepage.macomb.com/gstengel/gs196

I can't remember who posted asking for such shots but thank you for
reminding me to do so.

I have finally updated my website. It was three years old....Geez!
There is new stuff and order on almost every page.
There are even pots with fish on them.
(On the production line page)
(Did I mention that a cat dish is any dish a cat
will eat out of and cats will eat out of anything?)

Anyone with helpful remarks would be great, as I am no web wiz....
Thanks folks.

Elizabeth,

I've checked your website twice now but gotten the same "Temporarily
Unavailable" message each time. It says: "The Angelfire site you are
trying to reach has been temporarily suspended due to excessive bandwidth
consumption."

Is this a problem with your site or my access?

Well, I decided that since I'm finding some real clay zone these days
and getting excited about the direction I'm going in, and have joined a
couple of art/potters guilds in the area, I needed to revamp my website
and bring it up to speed.
I have a little content to write up still, but its mostly up and running.
If you've a mind, have a look
http://www.squarepegarts.com/
and as always, I appreciate feedback!

Off to batten down before the approaching storm...

Dear Cathi,

Congratulations on getting your website up and running! I read your blog
when you tell us what new things are there, and it's nice to be able to
admire the rest of your work as well.

I use Firefox as my browser and noticed that some of the pop-up pictures of
your thumbnails pop up in areas of the screen I can't see. For example, th=
e
top row of pots looks ok when they pop up, but the second row pops up lower
so that only half the image can be seen, and the third row pops up off the
page on the bottom. This makes it so I have to keep scrolling down so the
pictures I want to see are on the top row every time before I go to get the
bigger images. And it also makes it so I can't see the whole pop-up pic of
the last pot on the screen.

I hope I've made this is clear!

Also, it took me a while to figure out that NFS meant "not for sale,"
especially since not every other pic has a "Click Here to Purchase" link. =
I
like that the Purchase links go directly to your Etsy site. Makes buying
easy!

Best of luck with your new site, and stay dry! Looks like Little League is
gonna be rained out tomorrow...

Hey Cathi and all Web Building Potters,
May I suggest when you have built or updated your website you take a few=3D=
20=3D

minutes to run a validation on the code? Go to=3D20
http://validator.w3.org/ and type in the web page you want to check. You=
=3D
will=3D20
quickly see where mistakes have been made and a detailed list of what the=
=3D
y=3D20
are. Once the list of errors comes up you will see options offered, one o=
=3D
f which=3D20
is a square box offering to clean up markup with HTML tidy. Check that bo=
=3D
x and=3D20
run the validation again and you will get a page of corrected code.Just c=
=3D
ut and=3D20
paste. Nine times out of ten it will work correctly and clean up all your=
=3D
errors in=3D20
one fell swoop. There is not any wysiwyg program on the market that will =
=3D
give=3D20
you completely correct code, and yes that includes Dreamweaver.
Without trying to be mean Cathi you have some serious code errors which i=
=3D
s=3D20
why the images don't fit on the bottom of the page.
The W3C validator is like having your own code expert on call 24/7.

My two and a half cents worth.
