I was at the local home improvement store the other day and they had Large piece
Slate and Bluestone that were reasonably cheap (under $20) 19x19 and
one inch thick. Can I use these to make a wedging table top I would
Love to have one that size would the stone be usable for this purpose,
or should I just make a bigger one out of plaster?

Thanks

Kirk,
My work bench is slate, it is THE best for the purpose and a brilliant
wedging bench.

Thankyou for the advice, I will either go with the slate or the concret
pavers, I am leaning toward one of each really.

Dear Steve:

I think the 19 inch slate square would be adequate for wedging but if you
want something bigger you can check some of the rock and stone suppliers.
Also, slate is used as a base for billiard tables and you can check for
makers of these and they may have some broken pieces they can't use that you
could get for a nominal fee, or for free if they're in a generous mood.

Regards,
June
