Well, I'm chomping at the bit to buy a gas-fired kiln for my home studio,
so I can do reduction firing.
An article in the May/June _Clay Times_ mentions both the Olympic
Torchbearer and the Aim gas kiln. Does anybody have advice on which kiln I
should buy?
Olympic Torchbearer
---------------
list price $1055 for 23" dia., $1420 for 28-1/4" dia.
Multiple burner configuration. Built with rings. The article was very
complimentary about the 28" model. Optional: Dawson automatic shutoff
(ignition ring & thermocouple shutoff $190 or $225), and kiln sitter($190).
I think 3" bricks.
Aim gas kiln
---------
list price $1595 for 23" dia., $1860 for 29" dia.
3" bricks, cone 10, 27" deep. Has a valve on each burner, matched to the
gas pipe diameter for unrestricted gas flow. Includes pressure guage,
safety shit-off valve and ignition system, main shut-off valve, floor tile,
floor osts, damper tile, and baffle tile. Hinged lid with lid clip and
handle, and a welded angle iron stand. Kiln sitters are optional.
I don't know how to compare the two and what they come with. The "options"
sound necessary to me. :-) Any ideas will be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Suzana
