Just read Linda Arbuckle's missive about why one would go to grad school.
I totally agree with her and hope that those of you who are interested in
doing so print and re-read her message frequently during your continued
academic journey. You'll need it to remind yourself that others have taken
the same path. I graduated in 1995 with my MFA and have to say that it was
two of the most introspective, frustrating and wonderful years of my life (so
far).
The College Art Association published an article within the last two years
that talks about the MFA being a terminal degree. Linda mentioned that there
are some schools in the UK that are offering Ph.D programs in the visual
arts. I thought I would throw my two cents in and also mention another Ph.D
program at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. The department chair
is Tapio Yli-Viikari. UIAH is a terrific place to be for those who would
like to experience education in another part of the world.

Cheers and see you at NCECA,

Dawne Jenelle Fowkes :)
