wood ash glaze problem (again)

Sorry I didn't get more specific. The 60/40 is
60% clay and 40% wood ash. I did mill it for about
2 hours and screaned through 60 mesh. I am using
it on bisk pots. I added some bentonite 1-2% and
have double dipped the rims of some bowls for effect.
Also, the ash is mostly elm and unwashed.

Hi Dave:

With that much clay in the glaze you would probably have better luck
applying it to leather hard pots. I would cut the milling time to about an
hour. I sieve through a 30 mesh prior to mixing my ash glaze and after
milling for one hour it will easily pass through a 100 mesh screen.

If you don't want to green glaze, try spraying the glaze if you have a gun
and compressor. Ash glazes seem to apply best with spraying and this may
stop the flaking problem. You may have to calcine some of the clay but try
spraying first if you can.
