What's the best book or resource available on phototransfer techniques?

There is no book that I know of that details the new modern
techniques. There are now 3 or 4 digital techniques that make
excellent color ceramic decals from photographs.

There probably more than a dozen other older ways going back a
hundred fifty years in some cases. The older methods are in the
books. Many are complicated and u se plenty of dangerous chemicals,
require a darkroom or expensive supplies.

In Southern Europe and the orient the custom for many years is to
put a porcelain photo (usually black and white until recently) of
the deceased on the grave. There are many small businesses that make
these grave portraits in those countries and I have corresponded
with a few who spotted my postings on this subject in the archives..

I have studied transferring photos onto ceramic and you can see the
paper I wrote on my homepage. See web address at bottom of this
letter.

There are several studios that will make these decals for a
reasonable price. in one off quantities using a color copier. One
such is associated with Bracker in Kansas.

There is another in Los Angeles area. I have been thinking of doing
it my self but am not ready yet.

Hi David

The new book by Paul Andrew Wandless, Image Transfer on Clay, a Lark
Publication, covers this in considerable depth as does Ceramics and Print by
Paul Scott. Both are excellent books, must have in my library.

http://www.printandclay.net/printandclay/techniques.htm This site shows
techniques associated with the latter.
