stiff brent wheel pedal

I have not been successful finding the answer to this problem in the
archives. (But, jeepers- that doesn't mean it isn't in there!)

My wheel pedal sort of sticks. When I slow down off of centering speed, the
pedal seems stuck for a bit, then moves. Is there somewhere that needs to be
WD-40-ed? I don't think the speed screws need to be adjusted. it works fine
except for this stiffness. It doesn't affect the wheel performance. it's
just a bit annoying and I don't want it to get worse.

Reminds me of a time when I had gone on a trip, came back, started to
throw and the speed pedal wouldn't go past a certain point. I picked
it up, shook it thinking there was dried clay trapped somewhere and a
whole cascade of acorn-y things came tumbling out. I could just see
the mice jamming them in there, "Quick! Here she comes!"

Carol,
If the pedal adjustment nuts are set to
your satisfaction and work fine,
remove the bottom cover and see if the
two fingers that move the slide potentiometer
need lubrication. They can cause this sticking.
I had one do this and the slide pot finger
broke completely off as result of the
sticking you describe. Now,
I use a Teflon grease called Superlube.
It is slick and stays put providing a nearly
friction free contact between the
slider and the pot.

First, turn the pedal upside down and look to see if there's any dried clay
stuck in where the pedal pivots.
With the wheel turned off, unscrew the plastic cover on the bottom of the
pedal. I think there's 4 phillips head screws inside the rubber bumpers.
Operate the pedal while holding upside down and see if the gear mechanism is
out of sync, catching, etc. Many times you'll be able to see what's wrong.
There's little set screws (allen/hex head) that allow some adjustment to the
gears. Also check the pivot rod while you have the pedal open.
If you find what's sticking, a minor adjustment will fix it.
Then put little lithium grease on the gears.
