Subj: Ceramic Apprenticship in Devon, UK.

Ceramic Sculptor and tutor Ama Menec is looking for an apprentice as=20
she develops her new Garden Sculpture range 'A Goddess In Your=20
Garden'.=20
If you are interested in developing your ceramic skills and=20
experiencing first hand the business end of a ceramic studio then=20
this=20
is the placement for you. =20

It is essential for a would-be apprentice to have some basic clay=20
working skills such as the ability to wedge clay, roll coils and=20
accurately weigh out glaze ingredients. Full training will be given=20
in=20
press moulding, fettling and adjusting leather-hard sculptures, mould=20
making, glaze testing, kiln packing and firing.=20

Supervision of apprentice=E2=80=99s own projects can also be given, althoug=
h=20
gaining a thorough grounding in the above skills will be a steep=20
enough=20
learning curve for many! A driving licence and the ability to=20
interact=20
with the public are also useful as the position may involve assisting=20
at shows. There will also be some heavy lifting.=20

The studio, (shared with potter Lea Phillips), is 1 =C2=BD miles from=20
Totnes and lifts can be arranged to and from Totnes train station.=20
The=20
position is part time, 2 or 3 days a week. A typical day in the=20
studio=20
would start at 11am.

Mostly, the ability to learn, and a desire to become skilled are the=20
two essential qualities needed. Deaf ceramicists are also welcome to=20
apply as Ama has BSL skills.=20

Although this placement is unpaid, there is a huge value associated=20
with the skills and business development experience. Initially the=20
placement will be starting as soon as possible on a three-month trial=20
basis, with possible extension.=20

This project is supported by Devon Artsculture to develop=20
opportunities for people considering a career or enterprise in the=20
creative industries. You will be required to evaluate back to Devon=20
Artsculture on progress of your placement.=20

If you are interested please contact Devon Artsculture on=20

Hi AMa,

The default is that you will not see your posts. You can change the
settings if you go here:
http://lsv.ceramics.org/scripts/wa.exe?SUBED1=clayart&A=1

I have copied the text from the page below:

To choose to see your posts in your mailbox, use the setting:
"Receive copy of own postings" [NOACK REPRO]

To do this by e-mail, you have to send an e-mail to the listserv (not to
the discussion list itself)

using the address: LISTSERV@LSV.CERAMICS.ORG
mailto:LISTSERV@LSV.CERAMICS.ORG

with the command:

NOACK REPRO

in the body of the post

To avoid the program's having to read several irrelevant lines you might
have in your signature file, it's good to type the word END on the next
line.

If you also want an acknowledgement of your post, use the command:

ACK REPRO

instead (again, followed on the next line with END.)

I just sent in my own query and received an immediate reply which looks
like this:

As you can see, I have set my subscription to NOMAIL. This is because I
prefer to read the posts through the website. If this is costly to you,
then you can still receive a digest of the posts each day, instead of
all of them individually. (If you make this change, be sure not to
allow the entire digest to get into a post, and copy the subject line
from the part of the post you are responding to into the subject line of
your response.)

However, I'm not certain if you would receive your own posts back if you
were using one of the Digest formats, but I believe the acknowledgements
would come through.

In my case, if I should elect to resume receiving Clayart by e-mail, I
would receive an index only, not the digest, let alone the individual
posts. The index has "clickable" links for each post and if I should
click on one of them, I would be taken to the website and to the
requested archived e-mail.

To read e-mails online at any time, go to
http://lsv.ceramics.org/archivedata/clayart.html and click on whichever
week is of interest to you at the moment. (You will also see what else
is available from that page.)

By the way, if you use the "Join or leave the list (or change settings)
to adjust your subscription choices, make sure you fill in all the
sections with the setting you want, or the default for that section will
be selected.

Hope all this is not too much to read through...

Cheers!

Helen

PS: I've sent this as a "Cc:" to Clayart. I hope you don't mind. -h
