I worked for Al Johnsen in 1987 in Davenport, CA and I recall seeing
the dial-a-glaze calculator in his office. I believe he was one of the
creators and it was one of the products he sold along with his
Scott Creek extruder and ceramic easel.

Is anyone familiar with a circa 1970 handheld
device called a Dial-A-Glaze calculator? I got
one in ebay thinking to use it as memorabilia
wall art in the studio. It is a large rotary
dveice like the old round slide rules, has no-
longer-available raw materials keyed into it,
and is used to convert glaze recipe to
molecular formula, or vice versa. It has a
1970 copyright D. A. G. on it, produced by the
TAD Produccts Corp. in Massachusetts. I
imagine it got replaced by electronic pocket
calculators, and now we use computer programs.
I was hoping someone out there might know some
history, how accurate it was, was it used for
classrooms, whatever. I found it quite a
clever device. Thanks! C. A. Sanger Sparfish
