Hi,

I'm planning to be there, and I too am interested in
knowing if any other clayarters are planning to go.

Last year's opening and exhibit were wonderful. Jean
Lehman and Phil Haralam do a spectacular job running
this.

I just noticed, the info on the SFPN website seems to be incorrect.
Malcolm Davis is the juror, and the reception is Friday the 20th at 6
PM. (This according to my postcard from them)
Just didn't want to cause any confusion.

Lois and Lori: I was there last and it was a great show. For me it was
the first time to have a peice in a bigger show so I drove out from
Cleveland. This year I have another peice in the show, but can't get
there. Have a great time and if you have not been to the quilt museum
that was created inside an old bank with great architecture, I would
suggest it as an extra while in Lancaster.

The website says Sat, the 21st. I would love to go if it is on Friday. I'm from Delaware County near Philly. Can't go Saturday

The reception/opening was delightful. These people
really know how to display pottery and put on a
good party. Malcolm Davis (the juror) talked to
everyone informally, then gave a gallery talk and
a slide show talk. He explained in detail his process
for selecting the show. You could also watch another
artist at work making shrimp spring rolls, sushi
and other treats available throughout the opening.

There was tremendous variety in this year's
exhibit. It will be on the web site soon.

Lori L and I made sure two of the pieces would
have new homes after the show.

Lois: Thanks for letting me know about the opening. I really missed
not being able to attend this year. I found going around with the
juror to talk about the pots very helpful. I was particularly
interested in how he chose the work. I had the feeling that he was
more open to C6 work for functional pieces than some jurors are. At
the same time, I wondered if he took the "strictly" in strictly
functional more seriously. You do need some criteria to widdle down
the numbers.
Thanks again,
Jackie

This year I missed the opening myself! (It was my 50th high school
reunion, and we only get ONE of those!) But reports are that the
opening was great and the show is terrific. Malcolm's personality
came through clearly and entertained the crowd! He led a two day demo
workshop on Saturday and Sunday, which was fun.

This year the show will travel to the Wayne Art Center (near
Philadelphia PA) after it ends here in Lancaster PA. This is great
exposure for the artists, and so far the people buying the works have
not complained. This has enabled us to have a FULL COLOR catalog,
which is beautiful!

Our show has always been on line the day after the opening reception.
BUT... this year the web master is having major problems and it is
not yet up. I will let you know when
it is up, which hopefully will be in a day or two.

Meanwhile, maybe you would like to know who is in this 15th Strictly

The 15th Annual Strictly Functional Pottery National has been
juried by Malcolm Davis and will open April 20 through May 20, 2007.

Jackie,

Malcolm Davis' juror's statement appears in the new Ceramics Monthly
(May 2007). In his gallery talk, he was very concerned about things
that are hard to judge from images -- how the handles felt, whether
spouts poured well, the sense of balance he got from handling the pots.
He took the "strictly functional" part very seriously.
