I'm looking for a stable red overglaze for a ^6 semigloss black
(Hesselberth & Roy High Calcium Semimatte Base 2 using their
Licorice colorants as recommended here). Hesselberth
notes a Potters Palette ^04 base on his website. Has anyone
suggestions regarding colorants for it that would give the sort
of red shown at http://sankey.ws/pottery2.html?
Going through the archives, I find
red copper oxide 10-20%
red iron oxide 5-10%
tin oxide 3%
(BTW I've kept the current discussion of ^06 glaze on cone 6
bisqued pottery. May need it.)

John-
There use to be a cone 6 glaze, I believe by Mayco, that had this wood
looking effect, BUT....(there is always a but) I do not think it was food
safe, and because of that they may not make it anymore. Let me go into my
books and see if I can come up with the name of it.
I have used it before, and it is amazing......you just paint the glaze (2-
3 coats) all the same direction, fire and it comes out looking exactly
like wood.
It is too bad they always take away the cool glazes because of the lead
content! I do believe that is what they used looking at your pictures.
Let me look and I will get back with you.......
