wooden-frame kickwheel

The plans for the wooden frame- wooden head kickwheel printed in Charles
Counts Book-"Pottery Workshop" , as recently mentioned by Phil Davenport and
Sue Davis, were
drawn by me. I had refined the design (cut the cost to less than half,
required no special cuts in the wood, etc), and made quite a few for Charles
and his students. I sold a few to potters other than Charles. Charles
asked me to formalize the plans for the book. The drawing is dated 1972. I
still have a stack of reprints of the drawing, and have re-created the
materials list. (It is almost as important as the drawing) The words in
Charles book that describe the wheel and its parts are mine.

It really is a nice wheel, and has the virtue of being adaptable ( as Phil
implied). I used mine as a workbench, as well as a wheel, since it has
shelving all the way around. There are many photos in His book, and a
similar set-up can be seen in one or two shots in one of Marguerite
Wildenhains books.

I am freshly over a case of the "guilts", because I have (finally) mailed
copies to several people who had requested them, based on an earlier mention
here. (The checks in the mail)
The cause of the delay was a bad case of highly refined procrastination.

The bottom line is that anyone who wants a copy (till they are gone) is
welcome, for the cost of an SASE. (no. 10 envelope, one stamp) The drawing
is front and back of one sheet, and the list is another. Send me a note
here (baycock@hiwaay.net) and I will send you the address. ( the P.O.people
in Woodville once delivered a letter addressed "Mom & Bill, Woodville, Al."
with no delay, but I'm not sure they savy Persimmon Hill yet).

Bill, feeling (temporarily) guilt-free and virtuous, here on Persimmon Hill
(They are almost ripe!)

I have had two copies of Counts' book and students have gotten both of
them. He should reprint.
Thanks,
Marcia
