Hi Rick,
You say you are no "artist". I disagree, after looking at your pots. You
certainly have an eye for a pleasing graceful line, and choosing those
shapes using your admitted skills, is evidence of artistry, in my opinion.
Maybe you mean yours is not "narrative art"? (tying in with another thread)

Hello friends,
I wish to contribute to your pottery making experience. I would like to
speak of the difference between "art" and "craft." I've experienced that
there are the totally stunning artist who express their art through limited
throwing skills, and I've experienced that there are crafts persons who have
no clue as to "art" and yet have the ability to control the clay on the
wheel to the N'th degree (me).
You know what guys, I'd almost give up my throwing skills to have the "art"
skills... Honestly! I truly don't know from where come either. What I know
is that there are "artist potters" out there (my first teacher, my other;
best friend in SLO, Ca.... Michael and Bob)... Well, anyway, I'm here to
teach pure throwing to anyone interested. I am no "artist" ... I am pure
craftsperson... period... http://prismagems.com/pottery

Rick,
Regarding your comments (copied below):
I looked over your photos, and based on the results you have achieved with
several of your pots, especially the larger ones, you have created several
pieces worthy of being regarded as art in the higher sense. You might have
a perception of your individual processes being a "craft," but the process
does not unequivically define the art. I would be interested to hear what
distinctive qualities you find in pieces that you regard as "art."
