licorice vs black #3 var1

I'm back to trying to understand limits, what makes a 'stable' glaze,
etc. In looking at MC6 Licorice as compared to Black #3. The ingredients
are the same except for the proportions. The Ron Roy's Black Var#3 is
over the recommended unity of .25 for Alkalis fluxes in the glaze while
Licorice follows obeys this rule but is under the SiO2 value by a tad.
Black #3 seems to be a trouble free glaze while licorice has had some
problems for some users. May I beg some additional tutoring here.

Thanks for your patience. Donna

There are days when not only is my head not screwed on right but it is
stuck up my ar$$ as well. My deepest apologies. I had somehow mixed
ingredients when saving my glaze recipe for Licorice. Forget my original
question. I don't think it is giving anything away to say that Licorice
is Ron Roy Black Version #3 var 1

The modification are given in the FAQ of MC6.

There is very little difference in the analysis yet it is enough to change
the behavior of the glaze. So very much to learn and so little time and
knowledge....

Hi Donna,

Something wrong here - I need to see the recipe for Var#3 for starters .

The calculated SiO2 for licorice is over 4 - way over the lower limit for a
stable glaze.

I suspect there is something wrong in your MDT - let me know what you are
using and send the calculated Seger formula for each of the materials and
I'll have a look.
