good carbon trap - slow cooling?

So ...I think I am armed well to try to resurrect my supposed shino
pots thanks to all of your soda ash advise.

Here's another question. I have finally been able to get some
amazing matte glazes by firing down my fiber kiln - slooooow cooling
them does a matte glaze very well. But if I put some shino pots in
there as well, does slow cooling do bad things to shinos? I have
heard that shinos like fast cooling? Any advise here?

Thanks
Lesley Anton

Dear Lesley;

I have been learning daily, even 50 years into it. I now feel that
the cooling cycle has equal importance. It is critical.

Thanks Hank,

Found my answer. Thanks for that article.
It's funny how long it takes to figure this stuff out. How all the
way through school, to many years after...I never heard that crucial
detail. Even now finding out that copper reds do they're thing in
the cooling as well.

Best,
Lesley

Yes, it does seem funny how long it takes for the answers to get through
over the ages. I was doing copper reds on cooling back in the late =
50's.
My memory is that I used F. Carleton Ball's formula and firing methods. =
I
had adapted my fritted Cone 04 glazes for this color in my electric kiln
with great success. He was writing articles for Ceramics Monthly in =
those
early years. =20

I have a photo of three bottles and a bird on the Pottery Page of my =
website
showing how I used the copper reduction glaze, first photo upper left
corner. The bowl with the copper red pattern was achieved with local
reduction using silicon carbide at Cone 10. =20
