This thread is truly captivating, especially that --as far as I know--no
details have been given of specific needs.

1. Are you planning to live off pots you make, or just make pots and sell
them within the Mel 50 mile radius.
2. Do you make functional ware, or pots that "need" galleries?
3. Do you like or want to build your social life around potters and pottery,
or do you want to build your social life among a mix of interesting folk?
4. Do you have a spouse, partner, chum who will need a job, a reference
library, excellent musicians with whom to play quartets?
5. Does the school district matter? Do you care about public schools or are
you willing and able to pay for a good private/religious day school?
6. Do you have interests away from clay? Swimming, surfing, hunting,
skiing--like that.
7. Do you have specific cultural or religious needs?
8. Do you or anyone you live with have health problems, situations that
demand not only fine hospitals, but certain climate conditions?

I love Upstate New York, and only wish I were more Upstate. Winters are
long and cold, Summers very pleasant. Younger friends cross country ski in
winter , kayak in Summer. Large concentration of colleges and universities,
and three medical schools with their first rate hospitals (Albany, Syracuse,
Rochester) .. On the other hand I have friends who prefer the South, also
with excellent reasons. The cost of living is reasonable...esp. if you are
willing to live simply, out in the country.

Whatever you do, I wish you happiness.
