Hello Edouard;

The third pot 'C/9½ Redux Floating Blue', is there a
need for the zinc above cone 6 AND reduced?

What is floating blue really? Calcium borate
crystals? Are there any other 'floating' varieties?

Many thanks

May

Hello May,

what I usually do to find a new base recipe:

I use Richard Zakin's program Describ9
and make a lot of propositions to see
what the program will answer.
So, that is why I used Zinc Oxide, even
if I knew I could do without it in reduction.

Once I get a good statement for the base,
I decided on an experimentation using
different amounts of opacifiers/colorants.

IMHO, there is a time to be very scientific
in glaze designing, and a time to be intuitive.

Why I love high fire Floating Blues, it is
the challenge.
