artista wheel trouble

Hi, all. It's my first time posting, so I hope that if I did something
wrong, someone would be kind enough to let me know.

I've had my Artista
(http://www.creativewheels.com/products/Wheels//12.html) wheel since
Christmas. I've never had any issues with it... in fact, it's been
absolutely WONDERFUL.

So why are there problems NOW? I need to make a few things before my
school's last day for throwing (THIS TUESDAY?) so that everything can get
fired on time.

I just went down to my studio to throw. My wheel won't turn on. I don't
think I've used it in about a month.

It's covered by a 2-year warranty, I believe, but, well, I need to throw
these ASAP! Any ideas what could be wrong? The switch turns on (and lights
up to indicate that it's "on" but when I try to turn the knob to make the
wheel spin, it doesn't spin... it doesn't seem to be on at all, except for
the little indicator light.

It can handle up to 25 lbs, but I never throw with more than two or three,
so I don't think it's been stressed like that or anything.

At the wetcanvas forum, someone suggested that a power outage/lightning
storm could have blown a fuse? I know less than nothing about electronics
(or what a fuse is) so I'm not sure if this is a possibility. The power
strip where the wheel is plugged in has been turned for the past month
because I've been using the plant light that's plugged in there. But I
don't remember any lightning storms or anything.

Does anybody have any ideas about what could be going on? Things to try?
I'm *really* short on time.

Thanks, all.

Maybe there's a RESET button somewhere on the motor...maybe on the
underside?...that's just a wild guess. Have you called Arista or the
supplier you got it from yet? It may be a common, simple to solve problem
that wouldn't require an exchange...

Hmmmm, not a bad idea. Do you mean, like, open up the wheel so I can see
the motor itself, and look there for a reset button? The on/off switch
(looks just like the red light-up switch on your typical power strip) is
labelled "OFF" on one side and "RESET" on the other. I've tried that...
doesn't work.

I should call the company... maybe it is something easy. I know that it'd
been dried up clay that's done a number on a few CD players and a walkman
around here, but I'd be surprised if clay killed the pottery wheel. I
hope it's something easy... it couldn't have decided to not turn on at a
worse time.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try. :)

I'd call the company. I have an Artista, and no problems.

Do you have the foot pedal accessory for the wheel by chance? I had
that happen once when the plug for the foot pedal was not in all the
way.
