OK...here's one tip for measuring clay for hump throwing. Center the bit of
clay at the top to a specific diameter. Then as you drive the center into
open, check how deep you're going by watching which knuckle you're driving
in to. For me, middle finger, just over the main /center knuckle is .65 lbs
for a 1-1/2 diameter chunk. Go to the finger/hand knuckle at 2" and you're
at a lb.... a bit deeper for A 1-1/2 lb soup bowl. Once you get used to
it, you can nail it almost every time, and it's just part of the normal
throwing sequence. Try it, you might like it. Fast.
