amaco no 1 wheels

updated wed 6 jun 07

I recently acquired four Amaco No. 1 wheels. The wheelheads are unlike any I
have seen. Instead of a flat wheelhead, each has a metal ring that is
removable and the wheelhead itself has a rim. What kind of wheelhead is this
and what are these wheels worth? They're in good used condition and I'm
thinking about selling.

Hi, Do they look like this?

If so the ring is a mold for a plaster or setstone bat that fits down
into the rimmed wheelhead. Popular in the 70's.

If you do decide to cast bats for the old No. 1 make them upside down on =
a
good thick piece of glass. That will make the top of the bat super =
smooth.
Use Hydrocal or Ultra Cal instead of plain old building plaster. You can =
get
it from any ceramic supply house. They will last many times longer and I
think they absorb at the best rate. If you get serious and want to make =
a
lot of bats I will loan you may four bat rings if you pay the shipping.=20

It is important to check the level of the gear oil on the No.1 too. If =
the
motor is dusty and dirty give it a cleaning with some air. The =
comutators
(sp) should be clean too.

If you need parts or technical questions about Amaco wheels look for
"Donker" on the list and he can tell you more then you want to know.
