email problem

Hi All,

Last week I complained about not receiving Clayart. For weeks I hardly
received any posts from the list. Mel sent me a post saying I am
subscribed, and most likely it is the provider that is to blame, because
they have blocked Clayart as spam.
I contacted sbcglobal, my provider, spent hours with them, asking them to
remove the block, getting nowhere, except to suggest that I add Clayart to
my address book. Okay, I tried that. Things got no better.

As it happens, I have another email account. I have subscribed on that
account, and am now receiving posts from the list, but I do want to get rid
of the other provider because it costs me money. Can anyone suggest some
other things to do to unblock Clayart on the blocked account?

Thanks, It is good to be back.

Rikki,

Most Internet Service Providers (ISP's) provide not only connection to
the world wide web, but e-mail service as well. To access their e-mail
service you need to establish an account with them, as well as get an
e-mail address and a password for access. I'm sure you have already done
this. In most cases e-mail on a server is accessed through "Client"
software that resides on your computer - something like Mozilla's
Thunderbird e-mail software as an example. Having such software makes it
easy to upload and download your e-mails, and keep them organized. Many
( I can't all - I don't know for sure) also permit you to acess your
e-mail directly by logging onto their system using web browsing
software, such as Windows Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc. If you can do
this with your ISP, take a look directly at what mail is coming in. If
it is not meeting the measure of what you expect, contact them again,
letting them know you have attempted both means to access your mail and
it is not happening. The problem is definitely in their camp to fix. If
you cannot get the job done - find another ISP. These operations are a
dime a dozen, and you can find some others that are both good and
economical. No point in worrying oneself over some sloppy operation
..... and definitely not worth spending any money with.

Good luck,

Rikki -

I fought this for a couple of months. Nothing mel could do and nothing ACers
could do would bring Clayart back.

What appears to be the problem, at least for my account, is that someone,
somewhere marked my message as spam. This can easily happen as addresses are
harvested by spammers all the time. Now, some computer somewhere thinks that
nothing should be sent to me or allowed to come from me.

All of the symptoms that I was experiencing fit this scenario. For example,
I had another person on the same domain try to sign up for Clayart. He was
blocked, too, so it's not just my account, it's the whole domain that has
been marked. We have tried to run tracert to see if we could locate a
computer that might be the culprit, but to na avail.

Several other people have been experienceing similar problems. I'm afraid
that the Listserv will slowly cease to function. We need to find another
means of distributing Clayart besides email. For now, my Hotmail account is
receiving Clayart, but who knows how long that will last?

As hard as the folks at ACers have worked recently to alleviate problems, I
believe that the system itself is broken and it's just a matter of time now
before it will no be possible to resuscitate it.

Hi Rikki,

I'm afraid I can't help you. Those of us who are/were on aol had a major ClayArt block problem 2 years ago. Before that, AOL had burped a couple of times and I opened a (free) yahoo account so that I could read mail in case Clyart didn't go through my aol account. When the major block happened, I called AOL several times and was blown off or essentially was told it was my fault. They still didn't listen when I told them that all of us on AOL were having the problem. I was so annoyed with the treatment, that I opened an earthlink account and closed the AOL account. Oh, and once I closed the AOL account, I was called by very sympathetic people from AOL - too much, too late. I had been with AOL for 10 years!

Thanks to all who sent messages about how to solve this problem. I do have
access now, and it seems the second account is the easy way to go.
Trying to get att to unlock my account is like the descent into the inner
circles of hell. I was ready to scream after half an hour.

Best

Thanks for offering alternatives.

--------------

I hope we can keep the Clayart email format. For me,
bulletin boards are much more time consuming to read. Even
with a fast Internet connection, the messages are slow to
open.

Once I download Clayart to Outlook Express, I can sort
emails by subject line, open them almost instantly, and
reply with the press of a button.
