Sam, you stated that it takes 13 hours to do a BISQUE firing in your
electric kiln on a slow bisque setting. Unless that kiln is just absolutely
humongous, I think that's too long. I usually fire to 06 for bisque, using
the standard (medium) setting, and with my elements going out on me, it only
takes about 9 hours, 7cubic foot kiln. When I get the new elements
installed, I expect that time to drop back down to the normal, which is in
the neighborhood of 7hrs. Even on a slow fire, I think 13 hours is too
long; have you checked your elements lately?

Hi Lisa

I purchased this kiln new from Tucker Sept. 03. I had them
coat the elements and bricks with ITC. I have kept a running
log of all firings (90 to date). 13 to 13 1/2 is normal for
this kiln when set to the slow bisque (pre-programmed) setting.
When I used to fire by cones, I would fire 10-12 hours. Ron Roy
has always stressed long and slow bisque, so (uh oh) "I've always
done it that way."

Hmm, do I need to re-asses my firing times? Comments welcome.

**I use my old kiln along side my new kiln, so no, 90 is not
my total amount of firings over 4 years :-) **

Hi Sam,

I also do a slow bisque, to ^06, and with a minimum 4hr preheat it usually
takes about 17.5 hrs to complete and 24 to cool completely.
So 13 hrs doesn't seem too slow to me at all, but then i'm a newb :) and
proud of it!!

Anne, in Saint-Sauveur, awaiting the opening of last night's bisque to go
onto the next glazing & more testing of glazes... fun, fun!!
