Hay Crew,

Not really any progress laying brick yet. I decided I didn't like where
the firebox was ending so I'm making the pignose area extend out front
more. To make that happen the border and ground level need to be raised
and a second border created with large rocks from the neighborhood to
contain the gravel for the firebox floor. On the way to work I noticed a
lot of red rock piled behind Bob's Homes so I asked if I could have
some for my kiln project. I guess it is a pre-cambrian shale that was
slag rock from mining the higher iron content rock. But to set those
stones where I need them I had to remove some of the small gravel and
fill in with some course road gravel I found on Camp Hayes Road. Scraping
out at the pit is getting thin and it's too hot or raining or that's just
the way I want to do it...

This new camera is getting pretty slick. This year for the fireworks I
set the W30 to "fireworks" mode that keeps the shutter open 4 seconds and
set to intervals of 15 seconds and let it rip while I shot a few rolls of
film with different speeds with the Brick and the K1000. Musta forgot to
set the Brick to infinity because the shots are like those foam tubes
kids whack each other with for fun. After about 50 shots I switched over
to video the last 15 minutes. Didn't catch the freak accident though,
half hour after it was over the fire chief was walking the line again and
a dud went off as he passed by. Knocked him 15 feet but he lived, unlike
the gal down below who took a 3" mortar in the face while her kids
watched. I'm thinking some of the grainy background of the sky is partly
resizing for the upload and a lot of smoke in the air from all the
explosives. Maybe there is some sense to that bit going around about them
Green People wanting to outlaw auto racing and fireworks. I know I could
hardly breath when it was all over...

Going Green seems to be pretty hip these days, even Wal*Mart is changing
the way packaging is used and my manager told us in a meeting we won't be
having Styrofoam cups for the break room in the future so we need our own
cup. I don't know if you see it but I see a new opportunity for American
potters to sell cups to Wal*Mart for a change. Weather you act on it is
up to you but I'm having a go at it on my local level if I ever get that
damn kiln done. Oh, that's right, I forgot, American potters can't
compete with the Chinese prices. Oh well, it's off to Wally World to
finish cleaning the plants and dirt off the parking lot for the season.
Stay in there eh!
