I seldom post much on clayart these days. Usually too many pots, not enough
time. Lots of things happening in our studio and gallery...

To that end: my wife and I just finished updating our website. First major
revision in
three years.

I would love to hear peoples thoughts, ideas, constructive criticism.
We are hoping to find some way to incorporate an e-commerce aspect sometime
soon.
Suggestions there are welcome too.

So... for now, check out the new Cold Springs Studio website.

Alex the site looks really good. It loads quickly, functions effectively and
has a Google page rank of 4 which is quite good.

On a technical note I notice that none of the pages on your site have a
DOCTYPE declaration in the page code. Dreamweaver usually inserts this
automatically at the top of each page so I am surprised that it is not
present on yours. Including a DOCTYPE declaration helps browsers to render
the page in a more standard, and acceptable way. This will help to ensure
the pages appear as you intend them to. It looks something like this:

On a personal note I like to see some personal information about the artists
included in a ceramics site. I feel that it creates a better relationship
between the visitor and the site owner(s), which may have a positive effect
on potential sales. It helps the visitor to gain a fuller insight into the
work and it's creators. Obviously just my opinion.

Re the e-commerce aspect I am currently developing my first e-commerce site
and have gone with a package called CartWeaver. It is designed to integrate
into the Dreamweaver environment and comes in ColdFusion, PHP and ASP
versions. Their support is excellent and there is a very helpful newsgroup
where support staff and customers exchange ideas and offer help to each
other also. So far I have found it quite easy to work with, and in the areas
where I have had problems they have been quickly fixed by referring to the
documentation and/or checking with support or the newsgroup.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Graham

Very attractive but the 'refresh' screen to get a new picture is
annoying. Donna
