Am interested in knowing if anyone has had experience using an engobe on
bisque earthenware in oxidation... advise and/or recommendations with
formula, application and firing using a clear and/or satin glaze would
be most appreciated. Thanks!

I have not used engobes on bisque but do regularly use them on leatherhard clay.
If you want to apply them that way, let me know and I will try to help.

Hi Marie
I used engobes and slips on earthenware for years, some commercial and 2
recipes that seem to work from cone 05 to cone 6, under glazes. I've used
them on brown and white stoneware and on red and white earthenware. You can
add oxides or stains to the base for a variety of colors. I have used them
on leatherhard clay, bone dry clay and on bisque. However, when I used them
on bisque pieces I bisque fired them again before glazing, otherwise my
clear glaze did not seem to adhere well. (used various types of ball clay
and all worked fine) Have fun!

a recipe I used less often- tinted slip:

Ball clay 65
Silica 20
