what is interesting in san diego

My niece in San Diego is having me fly there for a visit-Aug1 -5. What a lovely thing for her to do for her aunt. I am the last of my generation and laugh and joke about being the Matriarch of the family. There has to be some advantage to outliving my sister, brother and cousins. She did this for me when NCECA was in SD. I stayed with them. So, with this visit, can any of you suggest some interesting exhibits--pottery, of course. She has plans to go to a concert and some other things but knows that along with the music, I feed on seeing the work of others. Eye Candy!!!!! Maybe even meeting a potter?? I remember visiting a museum and some nice shops in Balboa Park.I think that is what it was called.

Excited about the trip---

I moved from San Diego to Sequim, Washington about 4 years ago. While =
in San Diego, I belonged to CASD (Ceramic Artists of San Diego); at that =
time they did not have a storefront -- now they do! I haven't seen it, =
but it is in the North Park area, at 3824 Ray Street. Knowing all the =
great potters in CASD, I'm sure you can find lots of pots there to =
interest you (Hi all you guys!). =20

There are places (mostly food) that I miss a whole lot (El Cuervo =
Mexican food, Kaiserhoff German, Karl Strauss Breweries [both the Old =
Columbia downtown and the Brewery Gardens], Callahan's Pub, Rubio's Fish =
Tacos... and I'm sure many more). Other than the food choices, I'm =
extremely happy to be out of the continual busyness and traffic of the =
big city and thoroughly enjoy living in our little farming community in =
the lavender fields.

Andi (in Sequim, where Lavender Festival just wrapped up... and we did =
very well selling our pots and meeting lots of new people from all over =
the country!). Today I'm gardening.

The CASD storefront on Ray Street is worth seeing. The folks there are just that, folks. Easy to know and willing to talk about pottery and to show you the work of other members. There are at least two other ceramic related shops on that street, but most of the shops there are open in the evening.

Balboa Park has an area called "the Spanish Village" which is home to many assorted crafts' people. There are ceramics, jewelry, rocks, papier mache. sculptors in wax, ceramics' folks doing large installation pieces. There is also a Mingei museum in the park as well as several other museums.

I had mentioned the CASD storefront on Ray Street yesterday... then I =
thought of one that I forgot... Dave Cuzick has a great studio on Campo =
Road in Spring Valley... I don't have the actual address, but it should =
be in the phone book (or if someone down there has it??). Andi in =
Sequim, WA
