Hi all;

I just received this newsletter from Jackson Li. It is intended for
members of IAC but the key word here is friends. My Chinese tutor told me
that the Tibet tour demands good health. I guess I will have to start to
do my physical training. He also pointed out that the blue in the sky over
Tibet is the richest blue ever. He added that the colours seem to be more
vibrant in the high altitudes. Here is the message.

Chinese food for thought.

As an extension of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) General
Assembly hosting in China, Xian for September 11-14, 2008, we have
organized
a China Ceramic Cultural Exchange series of tours of China. This is a
special program extending your IAC Conference visit to China. The China
2008
Tours for IAC Members and friends will be organized into small groups of no
greater than 16 persons each.

The first tour proposal is an Art and Crafts study and survey of Tibet to
focus on Tibetan art, monastery painting, textiles, pottery and other
crafts. There will be a spotlight on the traditional Tangka painting
technique used in Tibetan temples. The Tibetan program will be undertaken
with the sponsorship of the Tibetan Art Association and the University of
Tibet.

The second proposal is a tour of Northern China, from Xian east to Beijing.
You will travel to the UNESCO heritage site of Pingyao, discover a pottery
village since Song times, visit Buddhist temples and marvel at the Buddhist
artworks at Datong.

The first set of tours would be for academics that need to return home soon
after the conference and will start from Beijing to conclude at the 2008
IAC
Xian event of September 11-14.
The second set of tours will begin after the IAC Conference and leave from
Xian to either fly to Tibet or travel by air-conditioned private bus
eastward to Pingyao and Datong.

You will have the opportunity to translate your China tour experiences into
time making art in Jingdezhen. You are offered to apply for a Masters
Workshop as a pre-event to the 2008 China Jingdezhen International Ceramic
Fair of mid-October. Opportunities to participate in this IAC 2008 Masters
Workshop are open to IAC members and friends who participate in our
post-conference tours. The one-week workshop focus will be Chinese Cuisine
and Ceramics and the art form created when the two coincide. Your time in
Jingdezhen will be sponsored by Jingdezhen City and Jingdezhen Sanbao
Ceramic Art Institute. Please inquire further if you are interested in this
unique program or have a specific research project in mind.

The China Ceramic Cultural Exchange program, operating for over ten years,
had the wonderful experience of organizing the participation to the
Jingdezhen 1000 Years Celebration of Porcelain special events for IAC
members in September 2004, including a 10-day tour to Yixing, Yellow
Mountains, Hangzhou and Shanghai. We welcome participation individually or
as a national group, including members and friends. I look forward to
receiving your inquiries, ideas and expectations of touring in China.
Please
notify other IAC members of your country and your friends about this unique
tour program in China. All the tour information is available on website
www.chinaclayart.com.

Sincerely
