need help with element pinning project

Hello,

I am fixing up my old bisque kiln and I need a lot of element pins for
it because the elements are always coming out of the grooves. The kiln
is very old, the brick is beat up and in some places it is hard to even
get element pins to stick in due to the condition of the brick. So I
need a lot of wire, probably at least twice as much as would be used to
replace elements in a normal kiln.

Does anyone know what gauge wire to use and whether it should be
nichrome or kanthal wire; and for that matter, where the best prices are
on it? In the Laguna catalog there is both kinds of wire and it seems
like they are both suitable for pinning elements but I am not sure which
is normally used for this kind of project and what size. I tried calling
an industrial supplier but they would need to know the exact alloy which
I don't know. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,
I contacted an element seller years ago and
bought a large quantity of straight spooled
kanthal A-1 wire and use it as needed all
over the place, plus I can wind it myself
into elements using a long thin rod and a
powerful electric drill. 16 gauge, I think.
Try that avenue first... Euclids is who I called.

Paul:
Don't mess with that. Call a kiln manufacturer and order pins. They're
cheap,
cheaper than buying wire.

Yo! Paul!
Amaco sells nichrome wire staples made for the purpose.... $ 4.31 a
dozen...
...and if your brick is as brittle as you indicate, you might want to
reconsider purchasing that kiln I've described to you earlier...
