My late brother David wanted to be cremated
and have his ashes scattered to the winds.
He did not want any permanent headstone.

While respecting his wishes, my family still
needed an anchor for our memories.

I began making colored porcelain stones with
his name on them. I fired them, then sanded them
until they were as smooth as river stones.

I asked each member of my family to select a stone.
They were free to do whateverthey wanted with them.
Stones could be kept or left in a favorite spot.

There were no rules and no way to do it wrong.

These stones have now been placed all around
the world.
( Big Thanks to some clayarters ! )

I imagine them being found by others who keep them
or move them, creating a living, constantly evolving
memorial.

I have images of them on my website ...

While you are there visit the 'In the Studio' pages
to get details of my experiments with paper porcelain
murrinis and view the photographs. For those who are
interested in paper clay it will be fun to see some of the
strange results.

I hope to be teaching more workshops in the future so
I can share all the excitement first hand.
