i have been chatting online and the phone with bill merrill out
in the seattle area.
he is a veteran potter, teacher and has a great set of plans
and a theory of building a flat roofed kiln. they are on my clayart
page with a photo of the finished roof.
this is a variation of the old iowa/jim mckinnell design. rods through
brick with bolts holding each row together.
he has added an angle iron brace and threads ni/chrome wire around
the metal for additional bracing.
this is one of those ideal plans for any potter working alone, or
has limited access or ability to weld.
bill is a regular on clayart. i am sure he would love to chat with
anyone that is interested in this plan. BILLM@pcadmin.ctc.edu
so, click on the clayart page below and check out the roof plans.
bill builds a beautiful kiln.

bill also has some interesting plans for a floor flue/to stack
system. we will follow with that later.
