The deadline for ACC Baltimore draws near and the question looms...Is it =
drawing the right galleries during the wholesale days?
My goal is to get in front of some of the top ceramic and art galleries =
in effort to get representation by one or two for a series of trompe =
l'oeil works. My price points $300 - $600 and $2,000 - $6,000.=20
I've been hearing more and more that the show isn't drawing like it used =
to. I last visited it in 2005 and most vendors I talked to were =
complaining. Does anyone have experience at that show selling/showing =
one-of-a-kind work at those price points?
Thanks in advance.

Eric,
I'm going to reply as a buyer rather than a seller. We used to do the Rosen
show as a vendor until we started the Gallery, then we backed down our
wholesale side and the gallery is attempting to pick up the 'missing'
income.
ACC has consistently shot itself in the foot, trying to use the artists to
get at Wendy Rosen. They have moved the Baltimore show so close to the
Rosen Philly, that artists had to tear down Philly, drive most of the night,
and set up Baltimore, essentially without sleep, AND pay a penalty because
they were 'late set-ups'. ACC has changed this to be a bit more
accommodating, but it doesn't really work either for the artist or the
gallery.
We used to go to both Philly and Baltimore, but have generally dropped
Baltimore. To do it now, we have to stay 3 extra days...time lost that can
be better used. Many vendors do both shows so we see most of the key people
at Philly anyway.
We noted that a number of the galleries go to both shows, but in talking to
them, we're hearing the same thing....not enough new stuff different stuff
to make it worth it.
ACC is definitely higher end and better juried, but Wendy wants Philly to
be a broad range show to serve the more mid-scale gallery like us, as well
as the upscale. I think you are almost as likely to sell at your price
points at Philly as at Baltimore. You might try to get into the high-end
center section of the show.
Alternatively, have you thought about Interior Design shows? Or other
venues like that.
Hope this is a little help.
