gelled glazes

Two of my glazes have gelled in the bucket. I successfully used the glazes
but over time they became gell-like. Adding water ruins the glazes...they
semm over satuated and crack off or crawl. Any solution? Can they be
fixed? How do I prevent this problem?

I am guessing they have Gerstley Borate in them. Is this correct? and
if so, how much?
If you can send the recipes to the list for us to look at.

If they have become gelled because of soluble alkalis, such as those found
in Gerstley Borate-heavy glazes, or those with unwashed wood ashes, a
tablespoon or two of Darvan 7 should keep them in their original state
without any added water.
Good luck,

Sounds like your glazes are flocculated too much.

One way to stop that is to reformulate with materials that don't do that -
in other words materials that don't release soluble salts into the glaze.

Send me the recipes and I'll see what I can do.
