Mark,
I use Mac Draw (very old program) on my power mac to do kiln plans et
cetera. I'm sure there is a PC equivalent. Regardless of the platform, the
best method I have found is as follows:
Draw a 4.5 x 9 inch brick.
Hold the duplicate key and make a pile of bricks.
Build the kiln on-screen with your bricks by moving them about with
your mouse. If you color them white, they are easier to pick up.
This way, you don't have to think in terms of 4.5 or 9 inches or any
multiples thereof. It always works out.
You may have to set the drawing scale and rulers to make a brick
reasonably sized on screen.
