Mel........I was talking about dolita's pot that you posted. I said black
but after looking at your post you said it was a clear glaze over a black
glaze. Sorry for not explaining better.

randy, i have been off clayart for a few days, but saw
your post in the archives.
most of the blue i have been doing is re/fires with
pete's red.
i know, that seems strange but really not.
i use the oil spot pots that are not perfect or have a flaw,
then put on a thick coat of pete's red and fire low in the kiln
to cone 11. often i get that rich blue. i have some that are
half blue, half red.
it is just fun experiments. it seems that the metal oxide black glaze
has some very strange effects on that pete's red. thin application
of red gives me giant oil spots. thick...spreads them out and the
red turns blue. it is all cone 11.
this is about serendipity. it is not work we use on sets of dishes.
the recipes are all over the place.
my black is standard...i start with persimmon kemmoku, add
cobalt, copper and chrome...high amounts.
total, about 15 percent metal oxides.
cover that with other glazes....makes for interesting results.
the black alone is really ugly.
even a cover of 1234/high silica gloss clear would be interesting.
