We plan to spend the Labor Day weekend in Asheville (NC). Arriving
Saturday AM and leaving some time on Monday.
There's so much to see and do around there we need help sorting it all
down to what we can squeeze in. If anyone knows of "must see" galleries,
potteries etc. we'd sure appreciate the advice...
Many thanks,
Fred Parker

Take in Blue Spiral Gallery (downtown), New Morning Gallery (Biltmore
Village), Grovewood (next to the Grove Park Inn), Odyssey Center
(river district), Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway in east
Asheville, and of course Highwater Clay if you want to buy some tools,
clay, etc. The Biltmore House will take the better part of a day to
go through, especially with Labor Day crowds. There's a whole lot
more, but you won't have the time.....
Cheers,
Ned Guttman in Asheville

Hi Fred,
The Blue Spiral is is a wonderful gallery. The website is http://www.bl=
uespiral1.com/about.htm.
Of course, a visit to Highwater Clays is always fun, see http://www.highwat=
erclays.com/
And the Odyssey Studio and Gallery is a must see: http://www.highwatercla=
ys.com/odyssey/school/school.html
I'm pretty sure you can get a map at Highwater or at Blue Spiral showing th=
e potteries in the area. If you can get over to Penland School of Crafts, =
and visit the potteries around there, I definitely would. See: http://www=
.penland.org/
AND if you get that far, visit Cynthia Bringle's studio. She is such a gre=
at potter and her studio is right there at Penland.
Have fun!! Celeste=20

This isn't in town, and someone else may have to help you with directions, but there's an amazing pottery, glass blowing, greenhouses set up on the way toward Penland that is a must-see. The place capped a garbage dump with clay and is mining methane gas. Everything at the facility runs on free gas. Absolutely astounding.

It is called the Energy Xchange.

The University of North Carolina at Asheville is planning to (or is
already) build their Art Building on a site doing the same thing.
Worth a trip,
